What I’ve Learned After 30 Days of Fitness

Today makes my official 30 days since I started my fitness journey. I’ve learned a few things I want to reflect on as well as improvements. By writing this all down, my aim is to keep track of my progress and if I motivate some of you then that’s cool too. Also, I need a new running buddy. And because today is Thursday, I’m going to share a throwback picture from when I did my first half marathon 8 years ago! So let’s see what I’ve learned after 30 days of fitness…

Heart Rate

One of the big things I noticed (thanks to my Fitbit) was that my resting heart rate went down because it used to be in the 70’s and this past week it went down to the 60’s range. That means a lot to me because I was showing signs of high blood pressure for the past few years now and I am glad that working out is fixing that problem.

EDIT: I got my blood pressure taken and it is back to normal! Yay!

Pace Per Mile

Another thing that I noticed is that my pace per mile has improved. When I started running in January, my pace was around 15/16 minutes per mile. This week I improved by a minute and my pace was around 14 minutes per mile. When I run on the treadmill (which I’m not a fan), I did 12 minutes per mile and then I got off. I’m a bigger fan of the outdoors and I don’t like the ‘mill that much.

EDIT: I just did 4 miles and I ran on average 12 minutes per mile! Yasss.

Gym Routine

I love the gym, believe it or not. Back in the day, I had a love/hate relationship with it. This time though, I love it because even on the days that I do NOT want to go, I push myself because this is a NEW HABIT and once I go and leave for the day, I’m happy I went. Plus, there’s hot guys at the gym so a single girl can ogle away.

When I’m in there though, I like to start with some cardio. Then I hit the weights and I do a combination of both legs, arms and ab workouts. I do 3 sets at each weight station and cool down by stretching on the mat.

One thing I enjoy is the sauna. But after 10 minutes I have to dash out of there because my skin is melting off, my acrylic nails become little burners on my fingers, and I get a little anxious towards the end. I made the mistake one time staying there too long and when I walked out, I almost passed out. So I time it on my FitBit and close my eyes when I’m in there.

My First Half

I was 28 years old. Damn, how fast time flies! I finished 13.1 miles in 2 hours and 47 minutes. The following month I did another half and I completed it in 2 and a half hours. I learned so many things throughout this experience, but I will say that even though I trained by myself it’s still such an accomplishment and definitely got that runner’s high. Oh and when I ran it, I never stopped. No joke. I like to keep the momentum going. If I stop, I might not finish lol.

Last time I shared my fitness routine I said that I would increase the mileage to 4 miles. Well, I only did that once and it was HARD. This week I’m going to run 4 miles instead of the 2 miles I’ve been doing and see how that goes. By the end of this month, I need to finally run 5 miles. I used to do 4 and 5 miles at a time years ago with no problem and I’m slowly but surely getting back to that.

Measurements Are Improving

Even though it’s been a week since I started taking my Isagenix supplements, I’ve noticed my clothes fit better and I measured myself and lost 2 inches around my waist and legs!

I’m so happy to be running again because not only am I seeing the health benefits, but it’s a great way to relieve stress. I learned that each time I push myself I do a little better and I feel better, which is most important. What I learned in the 30 days of fitness is that it’s all a work in progress and eventually I will reach my goals. Plus, I got a race coming up in April that I need to totally give it my all. Ya feel me?
