It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. It got here so fast. Today is my honey and I’s 3 month anniversary. Yes, I celebrate 3 months because that’s how I roll. I’m definitely in a romantic movie watching mood. Because of that, I want to share my top 10 romantic movies, if you’re also feeling the love bug bite.
Side note: The links on the pictures below will take you to Amazon, where you can rent these for $3.99 or buy them. You’re welcome.
Top 10 Romantic Movies
This film is worth watching, not only because it was one of Heath Ledger’s last movies, but because it reminds us that love can come from the unexpected. Even if it’s controversial and nontraditional, this love story between two men is still about love. Favorite quote: I don’t know how to quit you.
Something’s Gotta Give
I love Diane Keaton. This was my first time seeing her in a vulnerable, funny, heartbroken and in love type of role. I fell in love with her. Not only do they have an amazing cast in this movie, but Keanu Reeves is in this movie and boy, I love him too. The story is about a woman who falls in love with her daughter’s boyfriend. When they break up she writes her story, which turns into a Broadway musical. He falls in love with her while they’re broken up and tries to win her back.
Favorite quote: Erica, you are a woman to love.
The Time Traveler’s Wife
If you haven’t read the book, I highly suggest you do after you watch this movie. I read the book first and I wish I wouldn’t have because I already knew everything that was going to happen. The story is about a young girl (Rachel McAdams) who meets a time traveler (Eric Bana) from the future. When she grows up, she gets to meet him in real time, but he doesn’t know her. They meet all over again and fall in love. Favorite quote: I wouldn’t change one second of our life together.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
This movie is so beautifully filmed and portrays very well the loss one feels after a breakup. Discovering that you lose a part of yourself when you’re trying to avoid pain is not the bee’s knees. Joel (Jim Carrey) hears his ex Clementine (Kate Winslet), went through a procedure that erases her memories of him so he decides to go through it too – only to find out that he’s still in love with her. Favorite quote: What a loss to spend that much time with someone, only to find out that she’s a stranger.
Speaking of strangers, Paige (Rachel McAdams) is in a car accident, ends up in a coma and when she wakes up, she doesn’t know her own husband. Channing Tatum is divine in this movie! His character, Leo, has to get her to fall in love with him all over again. I actually have the book, but I have yet to read it. Favorite quote: The truth is we’re the sum of all the moments we’ve experienced with all the people we’ve ever known — and these moments become our history.
Love In The Time of Cholera
This is a book turned into a movie by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I am obsessed with this movie and once I read the book I will be in a state of pure bliss. This love story is about Florentino (Javier Bardem), who falls in love with Fermina (Giovanna Mezzogiorno) and although it was mutual, she gave into her father’s wishes of marrying rich. She marries her doctor, Dr. Juvenal Urbino (Benjamin Bratt), who by the way is one of the hottest Latino actors besides Bardem. Florentino lives out his days trying to mend his broken heart until he finally gets to woo her.
Favorite quote: Shoot me. There is no greater glory than to die for love.
I remember when I watched this movie, it was the first time I’d seen Charlize Theron in action (no pun intended). She and Keanu made an incredible couple on screen, it made my heart melt. This story is about Sarah (Charlize Theron) who chooses a guy as her lover to live with her for a month and then send them on their way. Nelson (Keanu Reeves) is November and they fall in love, but she has a secret behind why she does this one month fiasco.
Favorite quote: If I’ve learned anything it’s that you should have the people who love you, around you as long as you possibly can.
Silver Linings Playbook
This is a romantic comedy and hello, Bradley Cooper is sweet, crazy and neurotic. He gets out of a mental institution with the intention of getting his wife back. Meanwhile, he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), who has her own troubles. They come together and rehearse for a dance competition, all the while they become friends and fall in love.
Favorite quote: You have to do everything you can, you have to work your hardest, and if you do, if you stay positive, you have a shot at a silver lining.
I couldn’t have a top 10 romantic movies list without this one. This is about two friends who meet on graduation night and keep their friendship for over 20 years. They make it a point to touch base one day on July 15th every year. Eventually, they decide to date because they were pretty much in love, but never acted on it.
Favorite quote: I’m alone, not lonely.
A Walk In The Clouds
This one’s been on my all time favorite list for a long time. Again, Keanu does it again and you can see there’s a pattern here. I love the man. This love story is about a soldier who on his way home, meets a woman on a bus who is pregnant, yet single. This story is set in the 30’s and so Victoria knew her dad would be furious. So Paul (Keanu) proposes to pretend to be her husband so she can face her dad and then they inevitably fall for each other.
Favorite quote: I know that she is good and strong and deserves all the love this world has to give. Can’t you see that? How wonderful, how special she is?
Bonus: Fifty Shades of Grey
Okay, this one was bound to be on the bonus list since part two came out this weekend. Did you see it? *Raises hand* I have the book but I have yet to read it. Seeing Fifty Shades Darker makes me want to see this one all over again. It’s gonna be on my to do list this week.
Favorite quote: You’re here because I am incapable of leaving you.
That’s a wrap for my top 10 romantic movies! Phew! This post took me hours to finish so if you read it all the way here, I love you forever. So I’m curious, any of these movies also on your list? If not, what are your top romantic movies?
